Picture of the month ...

March 2013: Pity Earth's Creatures: This month's picture is in the header of the opinion article by Edward Hoagland, published in the New York Times of March 23, 2013; see here. Hoagland describes our role in the Earth system, our inability to see the whole picture, our dual nature of doing great things and being dysfunctional almost at the same time, and out impact on the biosphere in crystal clear words and verbal pictures. He captures the extent and consequences of our doing in obvious thoughts: “To kill so vastly as we have (a third of life?) and yet remain unscathed seems unlikely.”

The picture is available at http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2013/03/24/sunday-review/24ANIMALS/24ANIMALS-articleLarge.jpg.
