August 2013: Scaling up: At the end of a hot, humid day, a strong thunderstorm approach from the Southwest and swept over Norfolk. Several such storms this years could serve as small-scale examples of what could happen during a full-blown tropical storm aor even a hurricane. Do we learn from these events? Nassim Taleb's concept of being antifragile could point us in the right direction: how to learn from the disorder caused by moderate storms and then to scale this knowledge up to an extreme event.
