Picture of the month ...

October 2013: Nuisance flooding: Norfolk is getting used to frequent nuisance flooding. Like in Venice, sea level rise has slowly moved parts of Norfolk very close to the tidal range, and even small surges caused by low pressure areas sitting off the East coast and pushing water into Chesapeake Bay result in wide areas of Norfolk being innundated by salt water. By now, this is happening between 20 and 50 times a year, and soon it will be far more frequent. While Venice is experience some 2 mm/yr in sea level rise, Norfolk has almost three times that rate. Life, business and properties are increasingly impacted by the flooding. Cars damaged by salt water is just one of the many nuisances caused by the flooding. The good thing is that climate cheaters don't have an easy life in Norfolk because people are experiencing climate change right at thier door step.
