Picture of the month ...

February 2010: San Francisco and the CFD Triangle: Any location in the U.S. falls somewhere in the CFD triangle. The Culture-Fake-Dust (CFD) triangle is defined by San Francisco on the (lower left) C-corner of the triangle; Las Vegas on the (lower right) F-corner, and the area around the San Juan River near Mexican Hat in Utah on the (upper) D-corner. The left, right and lower sides of the triangle provide the scales for dust, fakeness, and culture, and these scales increase in a clockwise sense. This diagram of the U.S. came to my mind in 2005 during a four-day roadtrip from Reno through Death Valley to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Moab, Utah, and back through Austin, Nevada, to Reno. Since then, I found it applicable to many places in the U.S. And I found that those few places that cluster in the lower left C-corner close to San Francisco are my favorite places.
