Picture of the month ...

December 2011: A perfect disguise: The web page of Trafigura looks nice, doesn't it? According to an article in the New York Times, Trafigura is one of the world largest commodity traders, and the web page underlines this proudly. They even have a foundation that "aims at making a real difference by creating genuine, positive and lasting changes in the societies, communities and projects it supports."

However, somewhere in the company are those who made the decision to dump a ship load of toxic waste in the open in Ivory Coast, simply to avoid the costs of treating the waste in The Netherlands. This decision killed 16 people and harmed thousands. As I state in my story of the month, for me this is a crime against humanity. To my knowledge, the perpetraters are not revealed by the company, and they are not prosecuted by the law. Thus, the web page seems to be a perfect disguise for those committing crimes against humanity.
